The stats last season said that Jared Goff was one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL. Those around the league don’t agree.
In a ranking compiled by ESPN of the NFL's 10 best players at each position as voted on by executives, coaches, scouts and players, Goff landed in the Honorable Mention tier for QB's alongside DeShaun Watson, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr and Tua Tagovailoa.
Karsch says that “people in the league don’t believe that” Goff is capable of repeating his performance from last season when he finished seventh in the NFL in passer rating (99.3), between Joe Burrow (No. 2 on the QB list) and Josh Allen (No . 3):
“Because if they believed he was going to repeat that, he might be a top-five QB. He certainly deserves to be in the top 10 if they think he could repeat it. People in the league are sending the message that they don’t think our quarterback can repeat it.”
Nos. 8-10 among QB's were Trevor Lawrence, Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford, all of whom were well behind Goff last season in passer rating.
“Dak Prescott, Matt Stafford and Trevor Lawrence all ahead of Jared Goff, I think it’s more than laughable,” says Gator. “But that’s OK. These are just rankings.”
Gator adds: "It’s about belief. And the people in the NFL don’t believe yet. And that’s fine: use it for fuel, and Jared Goff will. The last 24 games he’s played, he’s been really, really good. He’s been better than top 10. He’s probably been closer to top five the way he’s played. But these people don’t want to pay attention, so be it."
