Just when he had worked his way back, Emmanuel Moseley is likely done for the season.
The Lions cornerback tore his right ACL in Sunday's win over the Panthers, according to ESPN, almost a year to the day after he tore his left ACL in his final season with the 49ers.
Moselely, who was making his Lions debut after also recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered last month, played just two snaps on defense before going down.
It's brutal news for a player who had signed a one-year, $6 million deal ($2 million guaranteed) with the Lions with the hope of proving himself worthy of a long-term deal next offseason. It's also tough news for the Lions, who were counting on Moseley, 27, to be their No. 2 corner opposite fellow free agent acquisition Cam Sutton.
Jerry Jacobs has played well in Moseley's stead. After picking off another pass on Sunday, he's tied for the NFL lead with three interceptions through five games. He was exposed in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Seahawks, but Jacobs has responded with three strong games. The CB2 job will be his to keep moving forward, with Moseley likely done for the year.
Should the Lions suffer any more injuries in the secondary, where they've also lost safety C.J. Gardner Johnson (torn pec) and played Sunday without nickel Brian Branch (ankle), their depth will be seriously put to the test. Harris filled in for Branch on Sunday, and Steven Gilmore and Chase Lucas would be the next two corners on the depth chart.
