Monday did not bring good news for the Lions, whose list of injured players grew over the course of practice.
Rookie cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw were both banged up during one-on-ones with the receivers, running back Jahmyr Gibbs left with a leg injury and defensive tackle Alim McNeill was absent from practice for the second day in a row.
Arnold hit the ground hard after elevating to break up a pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown and is being evaluated for an upper-body injury, per the Lions. He could be seen having his shoulder worked on by a trainer on the sidelines.
Slated to start on the outside opposite Carlton Davis III, who was absent from Monday's practice himself, Arnold was also injured during joint practices with the Giants last week on a collision with offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.
Rakestraw hobbled off after getting tangled up with Jameson Williams on a long touchdown catch. He returned for a couple reps in team drills, before going to the sidelines for good. Vying for the starting job at nickel, Rakestraw is being evaluated for an ankle injury.
Gibbs, who looks poised for a huge season as a dual-threat weapon in the Lions' backfield, left practice and is being evaluated for a leg injury. It's a hamstring, per Adam Schefter. Gibbs also missed time last season with a hamstring injury and was sidelined by a soft tissue injury this spring.
The Lions did not have any word on McNeill, other than no update at all. Any serious injury to McNeill would be a big blow for the defense, especially with fellow defensive tackle DJ Reader still working his way back from quad surgery and looking like a question mark for the start of the season.
