Terrion Arnold's start-and-stop season has come to a final halt.

The Lions have placed the starting cornerback on injured reserve, with Arnold set to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery later this week, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

It's the latest setback for Arnold in his second NFL season. He suffered a groin injury early in the Lions' Week 1 loss to the Packers that sidelined him for the second half, then suffered a shoulder injury that was originally feared to be a season-ender in their Week 5 win over the Bengals.

Arnold wound up missing only two games, returned to play in Weeks 9 and 10, then missed two more games last month due to a concussion. He returned again in the Lions' loss to the Packers on Thanksgiving, when he seems to have re-injured the shoulder.

It's not clear how or when it happened, but Arnold did deliver a hard shoulder hit on Packers running back Chris Brooks in the first quarter on a third down stop that forced Green Bay to punt.

The Lions are preparing to face the No. 1 passing offense in the NFL Thursday night, with Dak Prescott and the Cowboys coming to town. They're hoping to get back safety Kerby Joseph, who's missed the last six games with a knee injury, for the crucial clash in the NFC playoff race, which would lessen the sting of losing Arnold.

With Arnold sidelined, Amik Roberston will join D.J. Reed in trying to contain star receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
