It appears Penei Sewell and the Lions have averted disaster. After the star right tackle left Wednesday's scrimmage and limped to the locker room with a left foot injury, it was hard not to fear the worst.
"When Penei went down, I was like, ‘Ahh, not Penei,'" said defensive back Brian Branch. "Shoot, that’s our No. 1 offensive lineman right there. Hopefully it wasn’t nothing major or anything."
It was just the opposite, "a minor ankle injury," NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Thursday. The Lions don't believe "it’s anything serious." Sewell "should be good."
That's a major relief for the Lions, who are counting on Sewell to anchor one of the NFL's best offensive lines.
Entering his fourth season, the 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best tackles in the league and a heart-and-soul player for the defending NFC North champs.
