With a free afternoon in Detroit, Jared Goff hit Comerica Park on Wednesday with a group of his teammates to watch the Tigers take on the Pirates. When he was shown on the big board, a Ja-red Goff chant naturally broke out in the crowd.

In an interview with Bally Sports Detroit, Goff said that hearing the chant that started during the playoffs last season and echoed at Red Wings games and airports and grocery stores across Michigan continues to blow him away.

"I really haven’t experienced it outside of Ford Field, but it’s been really surreal to see the videos and just the love and the support from these fans, man," he said. "They’re the best fans in the world and I’m lucky to continue to play for them."

Goff, who signed a four-year, $212 million extension with the Lions this month after helping them reach the NFC title game last season and achieve all kinds of franchise firsts, said that "it's been a fun few months for me and the team and I’ve enjoyed a lot of the fan love, but gotta go do it again this year and go get that big one."

"It’s a lot of hard work, every team is gunning for the same thing and teams will be coming after us certainly, but we’re ready for it," said Goff. "Got a lot of work to do and we’re putting that work in right now."

The Lions are in the midst of their offseason training program in Allen Park. They break for the summer next month before returning for training camp in late July.

Asked what he's learned about Detroit sports fans over his three years as quarterback of the Lions, Goff said, "They love it. It’s fun, it really is, and we appreciate the love. It’s our job to continue to try to keep winning games and give them those fun times and all those great things that they deserve.

"It’s a lot of fun to play in front of fans like this that care so much."
