The Lions' leading tackler and defensive captain is back.
Detroit has re-signed linebacker Alex Anzalone to a three-year, $18.75 million deal, according to the NFL Network. It's a well-earned for a raise for a player who has spent the last two seasons on low-cost, one-year contracts.
A core member of the Lions' rebuild who followed Dan Campbell from New Orleans to Detroit, Anzalone is coming off a career season in which he racked up a team-high 125 tackles and played almost every defensive snap.
He also chipped in seven tackles for loss and six passes defended, showing improved ability as both a pass rusher and in coverage. His 21 quarterback pressures, per Pro Football Focus, were a career high.
Anzalone's return is an important step for the Lions, who were looking at a hole in the middle of their defense without him.
