The Lions are back-to-back NFC North champs -- and more importantly, the No. 1 seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history as they set their their sights on the Super Bowl.
In a historic, primetime battle of 14-2 teams, the Lions outclassed the Vikings 31-9 and asserted their dominance for the NFL to see.
It wasn't the shootout that many expected between two explosive offenses. Both defenses stole the show in the first half. But the Lions slowly, ruthlessly pulled away in the second, behind three touchdowns by Jahmyr Gibbs -- who finished with four on the night.
Gibbs piled up 139 yards on 23 carries. He also caught a touchdown on fourth down in the third quarter that put the Lions up 17-9 when the game was still very much in doubt.
On defense, the Lions made two huge stands in the red zone, twice stopping the Vikings on downs inside the five-yard line. They also held the dynamic receiving duo of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison to four catches for 54 yards. Sam Darnold completed just 18 of 41 passes in one of his worst games of the season.
With the win, the Lions secured a first-round bye in the playoffs and will face the lowest-seeded team remaining in the NFC divisional round the weekend of Jan. 18. The Vikings will travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams in the wild-card round next weekend.
