The Lions are adding a veteran to the quarterbacks room. Detroit has agreed to a deal with Kyle Allen, per NFL Network.

Allen spent last season as QB3 for the Steelers behind Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. His last start came in 2022 with the Texans. His most extensive action came in 2019 when he started 12 games for the Panthers.

The Lions likely still view Hendon Hooker as QB2, but Allen provides another veteran presence behind Jared Goff, similar to when Teddy Bridgewater re-joined the team ahead of the playoffs last season. Detroit also still has Jake Fromm, who spent last year on the practice squad.

Hooker, a third-round pick in 2023, spent his rookie season rehabbing a torn ACL. He got clean-up action in three games last year, completing six of nine passes for 62 yards.

Allen has thrown 26 touchdowns to 21 interceptions while completing 62.7 percent of his passes in 31 career games with Carolina, Washington, Houston, Buffalo and Pittsburgh.
