The Lions are adding a new player to the trenches after the retirement of Frank Ragnow.
Detroit is signing veteran offensive lineman Trystan Colon to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network.
Colon logged the bulk of his snaps at guard the last two seasons with the Cardinals, including last year when he started seven games. Notably, he got a decent amount of work at center over the first two seasons of his career with the Ravens.
A five-year vet, Colon has mostly been a backup in the NFL. His starts last season came at right guard. The majority of his action the year before that came at left guard.
He's logged about three times as many career snaps at guard (748) as center (257).
Detroit's leading candidates to replace Ragnow at center remain veteran Graham Glasgow and rookie Tate Ratledge. Glasgow has more than 2,600 career snaps at the position, while Ratledge, a guard in college, has been repping mainly at center for the Lions since rookie minicamp.
Colon will provide veteran insurance on the interior, where second-year pro Christian Mahogany is also in the mix for a starting job at guard.
