The Lions had two defensive starters leave practice early Thursday with injuries; neither one sounds major.
Cornerback Terrion Arnold, who limped off the field under his own power, was evaluated for a leg injury, per the Lions. It's a strained calf, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who adds that the team will be cautious before putting Arnold back on the field.
Arnold was having a strong start to his second NFL training camp, earning high praise before Thursday morning's practice from defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, who said the former first-round pick "took a huge leap this offseason."
Linebacker Derrick Barnes left practice with a hand injury after appearing to have it stepped on during team drills. He "should be fine," per Schultz, which is a relief for a player who missed most of last season with a knee injury.
The Lions are counting on Barnes to play a key role in the middle of their defense this season, while chipping in as a pass-rusher off the edge.
