Lions to unveil new uniforms before draft after rave reviews from current players

When the 2024 season arrives, the Lions will look different. The club will have new uniforms that will be unveiled before the NFL Draft in Detroit next month, team president Rod Wood confirmed Monday.

"We'll be rolling them out probably just before the draft and I think everyone will be excited about it," Wood told reporters at the NFL owners meetings. "I'm not going to tease it too much, but I'm really happy with how it turned out."

It's the first time the Lions have updated their jerseys since the 2017 season when they unveiled their current look, including their all-gray alternates. Wood called it "a multi-year process" in which Lions chief operating officer Mike Disner and chief brand officer Brian Facchini collaborated with Nike and the NFL.

Wood didn't want to say too much about the new threads before the release, but confirmed that "they're not purple, they're not yellow and gold," which were the colors of the original Portsmouth Spartans before they became the Detroit Lions. Honolulu Blue and Silver will remain the team's primary pallet.

"They're honoring our traditional colors with a little updating and twist," said Wood, adding that the Lions are also "going to introduce a couple of different pant options that can go with jersey, so it will give us different options to wear during the season."

Wood did say that the uniforms already received rave reviews from current players who went through a recent photoshoot.

"They were all very, very excited about it," he said. "We got a few players who really care about uniforms and those that do were very happy with what they saw."

Asked if the WCF patch in honor of former owner William Clay Ford will still be featured on the jersey, Wood said, "We're going to treat that in a little different way. It's going to be honored, but not in the same way it was on the current uniforms."

The Lions also released a new all-blue helmet last season, which, per NFL rules, will be paired with their new alternate uniforms moving forward.
