With training camp around the corner, the Lions have added speed and size to their wide receivers room.

Detroit has acquired former second-round pick Denzel Mims from the Jets in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025, according to SNY and the NFL Network. The Jets will also send the Lions a 2025 seventh-rounder if Detroit's pick conveys.

So, essentially: a late-round pick swap for a receiver who was drafted 59th overall in 2020.

Mims never caught on with the Jets in part due to poor quarterback play, but he has all kinds of tools. He's 6'3 and clocked a 4.38 40-yard dash at the 2020 combine, one of the five fastest times in his draft class. He also had the fastest three-cone drill.

With Jameson Williams suspended for the first six games of this season, Mims gives the Lions a potential vertical threat in Williams' absence. He caught 28 touchdowns in his final three seasons at Baylor.

Again, it's yet to click for him in the NFL. Mims caught 11 passes in 10 games last season and has caught 42 passes for 676 yards and zero touchdowns in 30 games over three seasons. He's also missed 20 games due to various injuries.

But if Mims can stay on the field and find a role in Ben Johnson's offense in Detroit, maybe the Lions can unlock his talent.
