James Houston's time in Detroit has come to an end.
The Lions have waived the 26-year-old pass-rusher, who's sure to be claimed by another team based on his success two seasons ago.
Houston had eight sacks in seven games as a rookie, but injuries and inconsistency have limited his impact since. He missed most of last season with a fractured ankle and has played sparingly this season despite the Lions' defense suffering several injuries up front.
Houston has one sack and eight tackles in eight games, while playing more than half the defensive snaps just once. He's also been scratched three times.
Asked why it didn't work out for Houston, Dan Campbell said Tuesday, "It just didn't. It just didn't. We had James up for a number of games, he came back off the injury and got back and it just never quite worked out.
"And look, wish him the best of luck. Sometimes you just need a fresh start, and this could be great for him. So, wish him the best."
