The Lions moved on from Jeff Okudah on Tuesday, trading the former third overall pick to the Falcons for a 2023 fifth-round pick. Gator's immediate reaction to the return?

"I don’t love it," he said.

"Here’s why I like it," said Karsch. "There’s not a formula for drafting perfectly. The best teams in the draft make mistakes. But one of the constants for the teams do very well in the draft historically is, they horde draft picks. They have more kicks at the can, more opportunities. The Lions now have two firsts, two seconds, a third, two fifths and two sixths. Nine draft picks. I like that a lot."

"If this is the best they could get for him, then I guess go ahead and do it," said Gator. "I’m not thrilled that it’s a fifth, but this is a guy who had fallen out of favor. They did bench him."

"You also have to ask," said Karsch, "how much money did they save?"

By trading Okudah's contract, the Lions saved $5.2 million in cap space this season. They also freed themselves from having to make a decision on his fifth-year option for 2024.
