Jameson Williams had a highlight-reel play in the Lions' win over the Bears when he hurdled Bears safety Kevin Byard III for an extra gain at the end of a long run to help set up Detroit's third touchdown. He also committed a costly penalty later in the game.
With the Lions moving the ball in the fourth quarter and trying to pad their 23-13 lead, Williams was flagged for taunting after getting pushed out of bounds on the Bears sideline following a short pass and catch. The 15-yard penalty stunted Detroit's momentum and the drive ended with a missed field goal.
Williams caught an earful on the Lions' sideline from wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El. And he owned it in the locker room after the game.
"Look, I’ll be honest with you, that’s already cleaned up," said Dan Campbell. "So, we’re good. As a matter of fact, Jamo got right in front of the team a minute ago, unsolicited, and wanted to apologize to his teammates. That’s big, that’s growth."
Jared Goff said the gesture by Williams went a long way: "Yeah, it’s huge. He’s right where he needs to be, he’s doing a good job. I know that was a mistake by him, but I’m proud of him, the way he handled it, the way he stood up and took responsibility."
"We’ll move on," said Goff. "There’s no problems there.”
Williams finished with five catches for 28 yards -- including a few key first downs -- and added 18 yards on two carries.
