Jared Goff: I "had nothing to do" with Dan Campbell's final fourth down decision

Jared Goff has seen the clip going around. He'd like to set the record straight: He is not responsible for pushing Dan Campbell to go for it on 4th and 1 at the end of the Lions' win over the Packers last week.

Richard Sherman relayed a story on his podcast that when Goff came to the sideline while Campbell was making up his mind, "Dan's on the headset telling him, 'We're kicking it.' And Jared, dejected, is like, 'Man, I wanted to go.’

"And Dan Campbell just looks at him and said, 'You wanna do it? F it, we’re going for it.’ And then he changes his mind and goes for it," Sherman said.

Goff says he doesn't deserve the credit.

"I think someone said that I had convinced him to do it," he said Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket. "I’m like, no, I didn’t do any convincing with him. He does that all on his own and we’re fired up when he does it. It had nothing to do with me. I walked over there, asked him what the plan was, he was deliberating it and told us we were gonna go for it."

Either way, it was the right decision. The Lions converted the fourth down and won the game on a field goal by Jake Bates as time expired. Goff was also confused by the backlash Campbell faced from certain analysts in the aftermath.

"It’s funny to hear all the criticism after it works," he said. "You can only imagine how bad it would have been if it didn’t work. It’s bizarre. It was a weird weekend to hear them talking about it and how critical they were of Dan on a decision that was correct in hindsight. It’s finny, everybody’s got an opinion.

"For us it works, and I’m sure we’ll keep doing it."
