The Lions are hoping a preseason star can jolt their wide receivers room.
Detroit has acquired speedy receiver Trinity Benson and a 2023 sixth-round pick from the Broncos in exchange for fifth- and seventh-round picks in 2022, according to 9News in Denver.
Benson, an undrafted free agent in 2019 who's spent the past two seasons on the Broncos' practice squad, popped in the preseason with eight catches for 80 yards including two touchdowns in the opener. He goes from one of the deepest receiving cores in the NFL to one of the weakest, with a chance to make an impact in Detroit.
Benson, who's also flashed talent as a return man, likely slots in as the Lions' No. 5 receiver and knocks Tom Kennedy off the 53-man roster. The 24-year-old product of East Central University has yet to appear in an NFL game, but Brad Holmes and the Lions clearly like his potential to forfeit a pair of picks in next year's draft.

After his two-touchdown game against Minnesota, Benson said, "I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder. I got two (preseason) games (left), I just want to continue to put on a good show."
He followed that up with two catches against Seattle and two catches for 34 yards against the Rams, which, according to the Denver Post, "might have clinched him a roster spot as the (Broncos') sixth receiver." Instead, Benson landed a job with the Lions.
He joins a receivers room in Detroit that features only one player, Tyrell Williams, with a track record of NFL success. The Lions cut Breshad Perriman, their other veteran free agent signing this offseason, on Monday.
