The Lions throttled the Cowboys 47-9 Sunday at Jerry World in what should have been a big party, celebrating a "payback" of sorts following the Taylor Decker-Dan Skipper controversy last season.
It was turning into a party atmosphere early in the third quarter, but the mood was dampened in a hurry when DE Aidan Hutchinson suffered what Fox broadcasters Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady could only describe as “gruesome.”
Hutchinson appeared to have broken his leg when he sacked Dak Prescott on the Lions’ second defensive play of the half.
The game was delayed for several minutes while medical personnel attended to Hutchinson, who was ultimately carted off the field on a stretcher.
Fox declined to show a replay of the injury, which brought several players to tears on the field.
The sack moved Hutchinson to a league-best 6.5 on the season, more than halfway to his 2023 total of 11.5, which ranked in the fop five of the NFC.
Several plays after the Hutchinson injury, the Lions may have taken another blow as CB Carlton Davis was kicked in the head with his helmet off. He was being evaluated for a concussion.
Detroit didn't let off the gas in the second half, romping its way to its fourth win of the season. The Lions put up just under 500 yards of total offense -- including 315 through the air from Jared Goff -- and averaged better than 10 yards a play.
Despite losing Hutchinson, the defense was on fire Sunday, posting four sacks and forcing five turnovers -- three picks and two fumbles -- while holding Dallas to under 250 yards of offense.
