A day after trimming their roster, the Lions claimed LB Trevor Nowaske off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals to fill out their full 53-man roster.

Nowaske, a 25-year-old Canton native, signed with the Lions last offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Saginaw Valley State. He was on the practice squad last year before being waived in December and claimed by the Cardinals.

He's not the only local guy the Lions are giving a shot ahead of the season, as NFL veteran WR Allen Robinson has been signed to the practice squad.

The Detroit native played his high school ball at Orchard Lake St. Mary's before going on to Penn State. A 2014 second-round draft pick, Robinson spent his first four seasons with the Jaguars.

Robinson posted a league-high 14-touchdowns and a career-high 1,400 yards in his second year in the league, but tore his ACL at the beginning of the 2017 season. He continued to produce solid numbers over the next four years with Chicago before one-year stints with the Rams and Steelers.

While Robinson played in 17 games last season, he notched just 34 catches for 28 yards and no touchdowns.

A third Metro Detroit native, DL Chris Smith, also made the practice squad. He played his high school ball at Cranbrook before signing as a UDFA out of Notre Dame.

Other notable inclusions on the practice squad include former Broncos WR Tim Patrick, who is working his way back from consecutive early season-ending injuries and QB Jake Fromm, who will back up Jared Goff and Hendon Hooker.

Other notables include TE Shane Zylstra, RB Jermar Jefferson, WR Tom Kennedy and DL Isaac Ukwu.

Here's the Lions' full  practice squad:
