Well that didn't take long.
Shortly after interviewing Mark Brunell on Thursday, Dan Campbell and the Lions officially hired him as the team's quarterbacks coach on Friday.
Once the franchise QB of the Jaguars, Brunell will have a big hand in grooming the next franchise QB of the Lions, with Matthew Stafford expected to be traded this offseason. Brunell was a three-time Pro Bowler in Jacksonville and won a Super Bowl with the Saints in 2009.
He and Campbell were briefly teammates in New Orleans ahead of the 2009 season.
Brunell is the latest former NFL player joining Campbell in Detroit. The Lions have also hired former Pro Bowl CB Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator, former RB Anthony Lynn as offensive coordinator and former RB Duce Staley as assistant head coach/running backs coach.
The difference in Brunell's case is that he comes with no NFL (or college) coaching experience. He's been involved with the NFL through his sports radio show in Jacksonville, the Mark Brunell show. Now he moves from the booth to the sidelines.
