Lions take Oklahoma State LB Malcolm Rodriguez in 6th round after trading back

The Lions selected Oklahoma State linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday after trading back in a deal with the Eagles.

Detroit nabbed Rodriguez with the 188th overall pick after sending the 181st pick to Philadelphia. The Lions also picked up a seventh-round pick (No. 237) from the Eagles.

The 5-foot-11, 232-pound Rodriguez had 129 tackles, three sacks and one interception in 14 games for the Cowboys in 2021, when he earned first-team all-Big 12 and second-team AP All-American honors. Rodriguez had 408 tackles in his college career.

Later in the sixth round, the Lions selected Jackson State outside linebacker James Houston IV. In the seventh round, they took Arizona State cornerback Chase Lucas.

Detroit drafted Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson at No. 2 overall in the first round Thursday and then traded up to take Alabama receiver Jameson Williams at No. 12 overall.

On Friday, they Lions selected Kentucky defensive end Josh Paschal in the second round and Illinois safety Kerby Joseph in the third round. Earlier Saturday, they took Virginia Tech tight end James Mitchell in the fifth round.
