Lions targeting safety John Johnson in free agency

Lions GM Brad Holmes is eyeing one of his former draft picks in free agency.

The Lions are among the teams "showing interest" in Rams safety John Johnson, according to CBS Sports. The Eagles, Jaguars and Browns are also in on him.

Johnson has been a four-year starter for the Rams since they drafted him in the third round in 2017 when Holmes was their director of college scouting. He has 32 passes defended and eight picks over that span.

Last season, he had eight passes defended, one interception and a team-high 105 tackles for a club that went 10-6 and made the second round of the playoffs.

The Lions have a need at safety with Duron Harmon set to depart in free agency and Tracy Walker coming off a down season.
