The last pre-pandemic NFL Draft drew some 600,000 fans to Nashville. That was in 2019.

In 2024, the party could come to Detroit.

Lions president Rod Wood said Wednesday the club is "still very much in the mix" to host the 2024 Draft, with the NFL reportedly down to three cities to choose from, including Green Bay.

This year's draft will take place in Cleveland, followed by Vegas in 2022 and Kansas City in 2023.

"We’re hoping to be a serious contender for the 2024 Draft and we’re still in the mix for that," Wood said. "Hopefully we can bring that to Detroit and by then everything’s fully re-opened and we can have hundreds of thousands of people downtown enjoying the draft. Look forward to continuing to try and bring that kind of thing for the city and for the team."

The Lions put in a bid in 2018 to host the 2020 Draft, highlighting Ford Field, the Fox Theater and the Detroit waterfront as feature locations for the three-day event. But they weren't included among the NFL's five finalists. Vegas eventually won the bid, which was pushed to 2022 after last year's draft went virtual due to COVID-19.

Maybe this time, Detroit will win out.
