Lomas Brown, a seven-time Pro Bowler and one of the all-time good guys in the Lions organization, is being inducted into the Pride of the Lions this season, the club announced during Friday's preseason game against the Giants at Ford Field.
Brown, now a color commentator for Lions games on 97.1 The Ticket, was surprised with the announcement by team president Rod Wood in the radio booth during Friday night's broadcast. His induction ceremony will be held at halftime of Detroit's Monday Night Football Game against the Raiders in Week 8.
Wood said Brown's induction into the team's ring of honor "couldn't be more deserved."
“Lomas was a fundamental piece of our team success in the 90s and enjoyed a long and greatly successful NFL career," said Wood. "He continues to be a positive presence not only in our organization, but in the greater community as well. He is a bridge to our fans, our Lions Legends, and is as much a part of our history as our future.”
Brown, 60, was drafted sixth overall by the Lions in 1985 and went on to start 163 games for the team over the next 11 seasons. He would play seven more seasons for the Cardinals, Browns, Giants and Buccaneers, winning the Super Bowl with Tampa in 2002, his final season in the NFL.
Brown joins 19 other members in the Pride of the Lions, which was first unveiled in 2009, including several of his former teammates in Barry Sanders, Chris Spielman, Herman Moore and Jason Hanson.
