After another big day on the ground in Michigan' 29-7 win over Michigan State Saturday night at the Big House, Blake Corum sat down at his postgame press conference with a smile and a message for the Spartans.
"I thought Tuck was comin'," Corum grinned. "That's what they said this offseason, right, all them shirts? Tuck was comin'. I just saw them running."
Corum was the one running Saturday night, while the Spartans tried to chase him down. He piled up 177 more rushing yards and two more touchdowns to put another stamp on his candidacy for the Heisman Trophy.
Michigan State, meanwhile, fell to 3-5 in their third season under Mel Tucker, whose mantra 'Tuck Comin' gained steam last year when he led the Spartans to an 11-2 record, including a 37-33 win over Michigan -- his second win in as man games against Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
But the shine has worn off this year. Michigan out-rushed Michigan State 276 yards to 37 on Saturday night and held the Spartans to negative 18 rushing yards in the second half.
Corum said the Michigan State players were chirpy in the early going, but lost steam as the gain went on.
"You can only talk so much when you're getting punished," he said. "They got quiet real quick."
Corum, by the way, remains ahead of Derrick Henry's rushing pace in 2015 at Alabama when he became the last running back to win the Heisman.
Henry rushed for 1,044 yards, 14 touchdowns and 5.8 yards per carry in his first eight games; Corum has rushed for 1,078 yards, 14 touchdowns and 6.0 yards per carry through eight games this year.
"We don't talk, we just do," he said. "I feel like on our side, the game is always clean. We just try to punish 'em."
