The Lions were on the wrong end of a botched call in their season-opening loss to the Eagles. And the NFL has acknowledged it.

Not that it's any consolation for the Lions' 38-35 loss, but the league has admitted the officials missed an intentional grounding penalty on Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on 1st and goal from Detroit's six-yard line midway through the second quarter -- two plays before Hurts waltzed into the end zone to give Philly a 14-7 lead.

Trying to evade pressure from Aidan Hutchinson and Charles Harries, Hurts flung a pass into the ground before escaping the tackle box that landed behind the line of scrimmage with no receiver in the vicinity. The Eagles should have lost a down and 10 yards.

"The intentional grounding that wasn’t intentional grounding?" Dan Campbell said Wednesday. "Yeah we turned it in (for review). They said they were wrong."

Unfortunately for the Lions, it's not a reviewable play on the field. The officials missed it and Hurts scored from the 1-yard line moments later.
