Kenny Golladay's time in Detroit is over.

The Lions will not franchise tag their star wide receiver thus making him a free agent March 17, according to Tom Pelissero.

Golladay had been pursuing a long-term deal with the Lions for the past year, but reportedly turned down an extension from the previous regime worth up to $19 million annually.

Tagging him would have cost Detroit about $16 million in 2021. Instead, the Lions will use that money to address numerous other holes on their roster.

GM Brad Holmes said last week, "Kenny’s been at the forefront of our mind in terms of making sure that we make the best possible decision, not only for the Lions but for Kenny."

With Golladay entering his age-28 season and seeking a deal that will make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL, Holmes and the Lions likely decided the 2019 Pro Bowler didn't fit the timeline of their rebuild.
