There are rumblings that the Steelers could be in talks with the Detroit Lions for a deal that would involve quarterback Mason Rudolph.

The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi says a source tells him that a deal with the Lions could happen.

The former general manager tells Poni the deal could happen by the end of the week.

He adds one of the reasons the Lions like Rudolph is Detroit head coach Dan Campbell was impressed by his play during last year’s tie.

It has been reported that the Steelers are looking to get a third-round pick in exchange for Rudolph, something that many people think is too high a price for the backup quarterback.

While he had decent play during the team’s first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, throwing one touchdown and zero interceptions, fellow QBs Mitch Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett also played well and scored touchdowns (Pickett) had two.

Trubisky signed as a free agent in the offseason and Pickett was the team’s first round pick.

It doesn’t seem like the Steelers had long term plans for Rudolph.

Trubisky and Pickett are also more mobile than Rudolph.

In the regular season, Rudolph has gone 5-4-1 (the tie was against the Lions).

He has 2,366 career yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
