The 2021 Detroit Lions are up for an ESPY -- well, sort of. They're involved in a moment that's up for an ESPY, in their usual role of the victim.
We take you back to Week 3 of last season, Lions leading the Ravens with seconds left on the clock. You know where this is headed.
Justin Tucker trots onto the field, lines up a record-breaking 66-yard field goal and drills it off the crossbar and through the uprights to lift the Ravens to a 19-17 win as time expired at Ford Field.
"For him to come through like that is just historic," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh would say. "Someone came up to me on the sideline and said, ‘I’ve never seen anything like that before.’ And it came to me right away: because nobody has ever done anything like that before."
Tucker's kick is one of four nominees at the 2022 ESPY Awards for Best Play, ESPN announced Tuesday.
"This is home to Megatron," said Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey, "but today 'Legatron' came out and sealed the deal."
The other nominees for Best Play are Ja Morant's 'POSTER' dunk against the Timberwolves, one-armed high school basketball player Hansel Enmanuel's 'Play of the Year' and Megan Rapinoe's corner kick goal against Australia at the Olympics.
The winners will be announced at the awards show July 20; fans can vote here.
