Three trade proposals for Lions at No. 7 in draft

Brad Holmes and the Lions have made it clear they're open for business with the seventh overall pick in Thursday's draft.

And if they make a deal, they'll likely be moving down. For Detroit, the more picks, the better.

So on Tuesday, Good Morning Football proposed three trades for the Lions with quarterback-needy teams behind them: the Patriots at No. 15, Washington at No. 19 and the Bears at No. 20.

Option 1: the Lions get the 15th overall pick from New England, plus a 2021 second-rounder (No. 46), a 2021 fourth-rounder (No. 122) and a 2022 second-rounder.

Option 2: the Lions get the 19th overall pick from Washington, plus a 2022 first-rounder.

Option 3: the Lions get the 20th overall pick from Chicago, plus a 2022 first-rounder and star defensive lineman Akiem Hicks.

If you're Holmes, which deal are you taking?

The Patriots' package offers the most immediate help. With the draft capital from New England, the Lions would have three picks in the top 50 and seven picks in the top 125 on Thursday. That could seriously boost Detroit's roster in 2021.

The addition of Hicks from Chicago would also improve the Lions' talent level in the short term, though it's worth noting the 2018 Pro Bowler will be a free agent after this season.

From a longer view, an additional first-round pick in 2022 would give Detroit a total of three in next year's draft. That would be hard for Holmes to turn down.

Surely, it's a dilemma he'd embrace.
