Two of the NFL's most distinguished players are believers in Dan Campbell and the Lions: All-Pros Jason and Travis Kelce.
You might remember what Travis Kelce said at the beginning of last season, before the Lions had established themselves as a threat in the NFC: "I’m not gonna lie, after watching 'Hard Knocks,' I kind of became a fan of the Lions and a lot of the characters they got. Dan Campbell, would love to play for him. Awesome guy."
Now the Lions are favorites in the NFC North, with a roster buoyed by several big free agent signings. None bigger than former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who inked a one-year, $8 million deal with Detroit after leading the NFL in interceptions last season.
Jason Kelce, Gardner-Johnson's former teammate in Philly, says the Lions got a "steal."
"I know that C.J.’s worth a lot more than $8 million a year as a player. He’s a baller," Jason said this week on the podcast he co-hosts with Travis.
"He’s going up into Detroit where they got a great team, a defense that flies around," said Travis. "So he’s not going to a bad scenario."
"No, he’s going to a great scenario," said Jason, who also had high praise for the Lions after the Eagles escaped Detroit with a 38-35 win in Week 1 last season. "They got better this offseason. Detroit was really, really good at the end of the year."
("Dan Campbell, baby. Bitin’ kneecaps," said Travis.)
"They finished on a pretty dang good note," Jason went on. "I think there is a very bight future up there in Detroit, and you guys just got an unbelievable player there, for a steal, if you just look at his playing ability. No question about it."
