The clock is ticking ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, and the Lions have yet to make a move. Will Brad Holmes pull the trigger?
"It's hard to say," Dan Campbell said Monday. "I don't think it's entirely up to us. I can tell you we're trying, Brad's trying. We've looked at everything, we really have, made a ton of calls, and he's been rolling on it. We still have a little bit of time here. We have until tomorrow evening, so we'll see what happens."
The Lions' need for an edge rusher is clear. They failed to register a sack in Sunday's win over the Packers, and their defensive line has one sack in three games since Aidan Hutchinson went down with a fractured leg.
They've been connected to Za'Darius Smith of the Browns, with Pro Football Talk reporting Sunday that Smith was expected to be dealt to Detroit by Monday. It appears the price isn't yet to Holmes' liking.
If the Lions don't trade for anyone by Tuesday, Campbell said they could still scour practice squads around the league for help, as they did last month in signing Isaiah Thomas from the Browns. They'll also continue to look internally for reinforcements.
"We got our guys and we're going and that's the bottom line," Campbell said. "And if something doesn't get done, we'll start poaching some of these other practice squads, see if we can find some guys that we really liked when they were coming out (of college) that have some ability, see if they can grow. And then we'll continue to give our guys here on this roster a shot."
