Amon-Ra St. Brown used the Lions' bye last week to hit a Pistons game with Jahmyr Gibbs and Kerby Joseph. The trio sat courtside at Little Caesars Arena for the Pistons' close loss to the Warriors, their only defeat in the last eight games.
The Pistons' mascot Hooper even stopped by to do his own rendition of St. Brown's now-famous headstand celebration that spawned a life-size cake at a local bakery.
St. Brown, Gibbs and Joseph drew huge cheers from the crowd when they were shown on the Jumbotron, just like defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn who was in the building for the Pistons' win over the Trailblazer a few days prior.
The Pistons lost a three-point game to Steph Curry and the Warriors, but "it was awesome" to be there, said St. Brown.
"They’re playing really good basketball right now, so it’s fun to see. It was a fun time, got to watch the Pistons go to work. Unfortunately they lost a close game — it was a great game, by the way — but I saw they won (Monday night), they keep winning, so it’s exciting times in Detroit."
The Lions are the biggest part of that, of course. The No. 1 seed in the NFC, they're preparing for their divisional-round game against the Commanders Saturday night at Ford Field.
"We got something special going," said St. Brown, the first-team All-Pro receiver. "We gotta keep going, obviously, but I feel like we have a lot of things to root for on this team, players, coaches, whatever it may be. I feel like our team is pretty unique."
Symbolized by St. Brown's hair, which he once again dyed Honolulu blue for the playoffs. Asked if it represents something greater than just a fun routine, St. Brown laughed and said, "Shoot, I wish it was tapping into an extra mode, if I was a Superhero.
"But nah, it’s just the playoffs, fun thing for me to do. Made the playoffs, why not? Let’s go do it."
