Cade Cunningham expects to be a full-go for the start of Pistons training camp in September. And to ensure he hits the ground running, the former No. 1 pick is getting in some extra work next month with USA Basketball.
Cunningham, who's fully recovered from shin surgery last December, will join the USA Select team that will practice and scrimmage against the USA Senior Team that's bound for the FIBA World Cup in August. Cunningham was offered a spot on the World Cup roster, but declined in order to focus squarely on his upcoming season with the Pistons, according to ESPN.
The Select team, which will also feature recent top draft picks Jalen Green of the Rockets, Chet Holmgren of the Thunder and Keegan Murray of the Kings, will join Team USA for training camp in Las Vegas next month.
USA's World Cup roster consists of 12 players, including the likes of Brandon Ingram, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton and reigning Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.
