Stephen Silas spent the past three seasons as head coach of the Houston Rockets. He's joining the Pistons as an assistant under Monty Williams.
Silas, 49, has agreed to a deal to become Williams' top assistant coach in Detroit, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Silas has 20 years of assistant coaching experience in the NBA, including stops in Golden State, Charlotte and Dallas. His head coaching stint in Houston didn't go well in the win-loss column, but Silas was overseeing a rebuilding team like the one he'll be joining in Detroit.
The Rockets have the most losses in the NBA over the last three seasons (177), one more than the Pistons. But Silas certainly had the respect of his players, judging by what Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. said late this season:
"We have to show up, especially for someone like Silas. On a personal level, he has touched everyone in this building. It's a bonus to go out and play for him."
The Pistons expect Williams to change their trajectory next season, after they made him the highest-paid coach in NBA history. And Williams expects Silas to help.
