In one of the Pistons' final home games of the season, the main event will come at halftime.

15-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion Joey Chesnut will be at Little Caesars Arena Tuesday night to take on some Coney Dogs as part of the Pistons' Points for Pounds initiative, which fights food insecurity in Metro Detroit.

At halftime of the Pistons-Heat game, Chestnut will compete against two fans to eat as many Coney Dogs as possible in one minute, with the Pistons donating $1,000 to the Oak Park-based Forgotten Harvest food bank for every Coney Dog that Chestnut gets down the hatch.

"I’m hoping those Coneys are going down fast, so they’re going to be donating some serious money," Chesnut said Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket.

One catch: Unlike the Nathan's contest, where he took down 63 hot dogs in 10 minutes last summer, Chesnut said the Coney contest will be "picnic style." That is, "No dunking the bun in water. But I’m hoping that the chili will help saturate the bun and make it easy to swallow. I think I can get to that 8 to 10 mark in one minute."

Which would be upwards of $10,000 to help families in need in Metro Detroit.

The Pistons' Points for Pounds initiative also sees Kroger donate a pound of food to the Detroit-based Gleaners Community Food Bank for every point the Pistons score at home games this season.
