The "very mild" ankle injury Cade Cunningham suffered last week might be worse than the Pistons originally thought. That's how Dwane Casey described it last Friday, noting the Pistons expected the No. 1 pick to be ready for the preseason opener this Wednesday.
But asked Monday about a timeline for Cunningham's return, Casey said, "There's not a timeline right now."
"They're just being cautious with it, is what the medical people are saying. My concern from a coaching standpoint is the expectation of him coming back and picking it up like that," Casey said with a snap of the fingers. "That doesn't happen. So I'm leaving it to the medical people to get him back and get him ready to go as quickly as possible."

Cunningham suffered the injury early in training camp. Casey said the missed time will add to the rookie's challenge of adjusting to "the speed and the aggression" of the NBA.
"Once Cade comes back, that's my concern now. He's missed almost all of training camp because of his ankle, and that's the catch-up he's gotta get to get back in and get used to the speed of the NBA game," Casey said.
