The Troy Weaver era in Detroit has reportedly come to an end.

The Pistons are set to part ways with Weaver, who spent four seasons as the team’s general manager, according to multiple reports Friday.

On the heels of the worst season in franchise history, Weaver’s departure comes a week after the Pistons hired former Pelicans GM Trajan Langdon as the new director of basketball operations. That hire was officially announced Friday night.

Weaver was hired as Pistons GM in 2020, tasked with undertaking a complete rebuild of the organization. His vows to restore the franchise to its former glory were ultimately unfulfilled as the Pistons went 74-244 in the four years with Weaver at the helm, leaving him with the eighth worst winning percentage among general managers in NBA history, according to Basketball-Reference.

Weaver’s draft results were something of a mixed bag during his four years in Detroit. In year one he opted to draft Killian Hayes seventh overall ahead of fellow point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who just helped lead the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Final. Hayes, meanwhile, was waived midway through this season, having failed to develop offensively.

The following offseason Detroit won the NBA Draft Lottery and landed Cade Cunningham with the top pick and found a solid second-round piece in Isaiah Stewart. Weaver also brought in the likes of Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser, who have all shown flashes of promise.

But yet, Weaver never found a way to put it all together, passing on the idea of making a splash in free agency or the trade market in each of the last two seasons. It all culminated in a franchise-worst 14-68 season that featured a record 28-game losing streak.

The Langdon era now begins in earnest with roughly $60 million in cap space entering this offseason. It remains to be seen who he will hire to replace Weaver and whether head coach Monty Williams will be kept around for a second season.
