Hockey players first, the Michiganders on the Red Wings are also huge fans of the Lions. The quartet of Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Andrew Copp and Jeff Petry dropped by Allen Park for practice on Sunday and dished out custom Red Wings jerseys to Dan Campbell and a few of the Lions players.
Jared Goff -- whose name was chanted frequently at Red Wings games last season -- got two: one with his own name and No. 16, and another in honor of "the legendary No. 16 for the Red Wings," as Dylan Larkin told him: Vladimir Konstantinov.
"That's a pretty special number for our team," Larkin said. Goff said he'd do his research on the great Konstantinov, who helped the Wings win the Cup in '97 before the tragic limousine accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Larkin and Co. also handed out jerseys to the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and punter Jack Fox, who hooked them up with a ball -- and joked that he was hoping for a jersey of one of the actual Red Wings: "I was hoping they gave me one of y'all's jerseys. The 'your own name' jerseys are kinda crazy, bro."
The Lions are in the heat of training camp ahead of their season opener on Sept. 8, while the Red Wings start camp next month. Their season begins in October.
