In a busy day for the Red Wings headlined by the acquisition of goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, the club also re-signed center Michael Rasmussen to a three-year contract.
The deal is reportedly worth $1.46 million per year, for a total value of about $4.4 million.
Rasmussen earned a consistent spot in Detroit's lineup last season and just turned 22 in April. He didn't produce much offense -- 12 points in 40 games -- but saw his ice time increase by nearly three minutes per game from the season prior.
The ninth overall pick in 2017 is slowly playing his way into Detroit's future.
Rasmussen is the first of several restricted free agents Steve Yzerman intends to re-sign this summer, headlined by forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana and defenseman Filip Hronek.
