The Tigers have secured a major piece of their bullpen for the next two years.
Kyle Finnegan is staying in Detroit on a two-year, $19 million contract with $1 million in potential bonuses.
It's a key move for the Tigers as they assemble their relief corps for next season. Acquired by the Tigers at last season's trade deadline, Finnegan was the club's best reliever down the stretch, posting a 1.50 ERA in 16 games and 23 strikeouts to four walks in 18 innings.
Finnegan will team up with Will Vest as a one-two punch in the backend of Detroit's bullpen. The Tigers are also reportedly interested in free agent reliever Pete Fairbanks, though it's not clear if the Finnegan signing takes them out of the running for Fairbanks' services.
Finnegan, 34, spent the first six seasons of his career with the Nationals, where he was an All-Star in 2024. He pitched in the playoffs last season with Detroit for the first time in his career.
