A couple weeks after acquiring him in the Jack Flaherty trade, the Tigers are reportedly calling up shortstop Trey Sweeney -- who could make his MLB debut this weekend against the team that drafted him.

Sweeney has killed the ball since joining Triple-A Toledo, hitting .381 with two homers, six doubles and a 1.114 OPS in 11 games. The Tigers are now bringing him to Detroit, per ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.

A left-handed hitter, Sweeney was already on a roll when the Tigers acquired him last month from the Dodgers. He's just taken it up a notch with Toledo. He's batting .333 over his last 36 games in Triple-A, .385 over his last 20.

That was enough to convince the Tigers that he's ready for a look in the bigs. Given their dilemma at shortstop with Javy Baez, Sweeney could factor into their larger plans next season. This will be his first test.

Sweeney, 24, was a first-round pick of the Yankees in 2021, before being traded to the Dodgers. The Yankees play the Tigers in Detroit on Friday and Saturday before the clubs clash on Sunday Night Baseball in Williamsport.

So to Sweeney, the big leagues could look a lot like Little League.
