Eduardo Rodriguez was off to the Dodgers, until he wasn't.
The Tigers had an agreement in place to trade Rodriguez to the leaders of the NL West, but the veteran lefty used his 10-team no-trade clause that includes the Dodgers to kill the deal, according to ESPN. The trade is now "dead."
It's not clear what would have been coming the Tigers' way, but the Dodgers have eight top-100 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline. Rodriguez, who missed significant time last season tending to a reported marital issue, nixed the deal out of "a desire to remain closer to family on the east coast," per The Athletic.
Rodriguez, 30, signed a five-year, $77 million deal with the Tigers in 2021 that also includes an opt-out after this season. He's expected to exercise it and cash in again this winter, barring an injury down the stretch or an agreement with the Tigers to renegotiate his deal.
Scott Harris and the Tigers will search for another trade partner for Rodriguez ahead of Tuesday's 6 p.m. deadline. He has a career-low 2.95 ERA in 18 starts this season.
