A week after designating him for assignment, the Tigers have traded Alex Faedo to his hometown team.

The former first-round pick of the Al Avila regime is headed to the Rays in exchange for minor league catcher Enderson Delgado and cash. Faedo, 29, turned in a 3.61 ERA out of the Tigers' bullpen last year, but lost his spot on the roster after Detroit signed reliever Tommy Kahnle last week.

Delgado, 20, was signed by the Rays out of Venezuela three years ago and hit .259 with a .782 OPS last season in rookie ball and A-ball. He figures to start this season with the Single-A Lakeland Flying Tigers.

Faedo, drafted 18th overall in 2017, never realized his full potential in Detroit. He finished his Tigers career with a 4.51 ERA in 64 games, while ending last season on the 60-day injured list due to a shoulder strain.
