It seems as if, in fact, Evan Roberts did break news on Friday - even if he, and every other Mets fan, was hoping it was not true.
During Friday's Carton & Roberts show, Craig & Evan played audio of Buck Showalter speaking to the media after news of Jacob deGrom's shoulder injury came out, and Buck was non-committal about starting Max Scherzer on Opening Day instead.
That led to what some, including Craig, would normally call Roberts-itis...but in fact, Evan revealed that he was speaking to someone this week who told him that Scherzer may be dealing with a hamstring issue, which is why Buck wouldn't commit right away to Scherzer starting on April 7.
And, before anyone had to be sent a Carton & Roberts Stolen Credit form:
Evan got credit shortly after Carton & Roberts' SNY simulcast ended, as Andy Martino mentioned him breaking the news on SNY's Baseball Night in New York - but said he's hearing the Mets think Scherzer will be fine for Opening Day.
Martino later Tweeted that "multiple sources close to player and team" said that the "hamstring issue exists but is not a concern," and Jon Heyman Tweeted similar, that it was a "tweak" and "thought very minor."
As of Friday night, Scherzer, who has pitched five and six innings in two spring appearances so far, is still scheduled to pitch in an intra-squad game on Saturday, so there could be news (or not) about the situation that comes out of that outing.
