Matt Shepard being replaced as TV voice of Tigers

The Tigers will have a new play-by-play voice on TV next season.

After five seasons in the booth, Matt Shepard will not return to the broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, as first reported by the Detroit News. Bally, with consult from the Tigers, will conduct a national search for Shepard's replacement.

In a statement released Tuesday, Bally Sports Detroit thanked Shepard "for his five seasons of dedication" and said it was time for a change.

"He's been a great teammate and has an incredible passion for Detroit sports and bringing compelling storylines to millions of fans every year. Change is often difficult, but we feel it's time to head in a new direction and are looking forward to the process of finding our next play-by-play voice of the Tigers," said Bally Sports Detroit said senior VP Greg Hammeran.

Bally and the Tigers are aiming to have the hire made by the new year. One name you can rule out for the job is Dan Dickerson: He'll remain the radio voice of the Tigers on 97.1 The Ticket.
