Maybe Spencer Torkelson was right. After the Tiger summoned top prospect Riley Greene to the big leagues on Friday, Torkelson said, "He's ready to be here. He might just be the spark this team needs right now."
And before Greene had even taken a swing on Saturday, the Tigers had a 3-1 lead over the Rangers, courtesy of homers by Robbie Grossman and Javier Baez. Then Greene stepped to the plate and singled to left field in the first at-bat of his MLB career.
Maybe Greene was right, too. Standing in the Tigers clubhouse for the first time Saturday morning, Greene told reporters, "We’re going to win baseball games. That’s all I got to say.”
That would be welcome. The Tigers have been losing baseball games for most of this season, including seven of their first eight on a 10-game homestand that concludes Sunday.
But things were looking up on Saturday, with the No. 2 prospect in baseball debuting in Detroit.
