It's been almost three years since former Tigers color commentator Rod Allen was behind the mic for a big-league game.
He'll be back on the call this weekend.
Just not in Detroit. And not in the TV booth.
Allen, who was let go by Fox Sports Detroit along with former play-by-play man Mario Impemba after the duo got into a physical altercation in the broadcast booth in September of 2018, announced Friday that he'll be doing three games on the radio this month for the Diamondbacks, beginning Sunday against the Cubs.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity," he said. "Tune in if you can."
Allen, 61, spent 16 years calling Tigers games alongside Impemba, who has since done some play-by-play work on TV for the Red Sox. Allen admitted in an interview with 97.1 The Ticket in 2019 that he was "pissed off" when his run in Detroit ended.
"There's no doubt about that," he said. "When you lose a situation like this -- the fans, 16 years broadcasting big-league baseball games -- that was a dream job. There's no question about that. But now it's time to move forward, and I'm looking forward to that next opportunity."
Looks like he's found it in Arizona.
