It hasn't been easy to be a Tigers fan in recent years. Or a Detroit sports fan in general.

Sometimes alcohol helps.

Maybe that helps explain why fans of the Old English D ranked among the 'booziest' in baseball in a recent survey by NJ Online Gambling.

According to the survey, which canvassed more than 2,500 MLB fans over the age of 21, Tigers fans average 3.5 drinks per game -- tied for eighth most in baseball. Their 'average spend' is $35, tied for ninth highest.

White Sox fans lead the way, with 4.2 drinks per game. Mets fans spend the most, sinking an average of $53 into the same number of drinks as Tigers fans. We booze efficiently.

Apparently we also booze out of frustration. According to the survey, 25 percent of Tigers fans drink more when the team is playing poorly -- fourth most in baseball. So, yeah, we've been drinking a lot.
